Next conference topic: Knowledge Rights and Knowledge Sharing in the 21st Century!

Look for a call for papers in Fall 2007

This conference will bring together many different disciplines to comment and reflect on issues relating to the acquisition, evaluation, and use of information in today’s knowledge economy.  Possible issues for discussion include the erosion of the “technological commons,” identified by Shulman (2002); the effects of political policy on scientific research; issues in research, publication, information sharing and ownership between and among disciplines; and issues in academic, personal, and social responsibility in information sharing.

Join us in discussing information sharing and dissemination in science, science policy, scientific findings, and other contexts as we invite leading scholars to discuss the epistemic implications of the modern information climate.

Heresy, Blasphemy, and the Freedom of Expression

Interdisciplinary Conference

Held January 18-20, 2007

at the University of Central Florida

Student Union, Orlando, FL

The conference was a rousing success with over 200 participants! Look for information on the next conference, Knowledge Rights and Knowledge Sharing in the 21st Century in the fall.

The influence and importance of freedom of expression are uncontroversial. The implications, limitations, contexts, and ways in which freedom of expression are manifested, and the effects of the dissemination of information, however, are not always so straightforward. Given the relevance of freedom of thought and expression to the growth of knowledge in the sciences and the humanities, journalism and medicine, religion and politics, and in all other realms of human inquiry, we seek in this conference to engage in presentation and analysis of issues from multiple disciplines and from a variety of backgrounds in an atmosphere of free inquiry and discussion in academic, personal, and professional contexts.
